A Very Large Postage Stamp Triptych composed of 3 canvases
My picture is composed of three canvases each measuring 92cm x 122cm. I have used approximately 8,000 used postage stamps to create the image. My design is inspired by ‘As I open fire’ a 1964 Pop Art painting by Roy Lichtenstein in his comic book style of using Ben-Day dots and speech balloons. He intentionally mimicked comic book printing using flat areas of colour, strong contrasts, precise outlines and stylised shading for his ‘Pop Art’ paintings. In crafting my triptych, I merged the dynamic spirit of comics with the bold impact of pop art, utilizing acrylic and collage to weave together a narrative that pops with energy and symbolic richness. Each panel bursts with action, punctuated by onomatopoeic words that echo the drama and immediacy of comic book adventures. This artwork doesn’t just hang; it infuses the space with a sense of lively drama and colour.
