Bratatat depicts the right hand panel of Lichtenstein’s triptych ‘As I opened fire’ from 1964. It graphically describes what he wanted to say ~ ‘A minor purpose of my war paintings is to put military aggressiveness in an absurd light’. He went on to say that his opinion was that American foreign policy was unbelievably terrifying yet that was not what his work was about. His work was about visual communication and the definition of images. While trying to keep sentiment at bay and control aggressiveness he did not allow the viewer to forget that there was once such a thing.
