Margaret Thatcher was Britain's first female prime minister and served three consecutive terms in office. She is one of the dominant political figures of 20th century Britain, and her legacy continues to have a huge influence. Her tough-talking rhetoric gained her the nickname the ‘Iron Lady’. On leaving the House of Commons she became Baroness Thatcher, of Kesteven and a member of the House of Lords.
